A Matter of PRIDE: Vote Yes on 8
Nearly everyone has heard of the Seven Deadly Sins.
But not many people consider the Gay Community’s connection to one of those Seven Deadly Sins. No, it’s not lust, or any of the obvious other choices.
Simply put, it is PRIDE.
We (in California especially) often see the trademark Rainbow flag flying outside of homes (aka, the “Pride” flag), and have often seen our city streets commandeered by lewd Gay Pride Parades. In recent years, these symbols have, interestingly enough, dropped the term “gay” and now simply go by the term “PRIDE.” i.e., the PRIDE Flag, PRIDE Days, PRIDE, and so on.
I submit that the word “Pride” is quite an interesting term of choice.
Pride is considered the original and the most serious of the Seven Deadly Sins. It is defined as “putting one’s selfish desires above those of others, and out of proper position to God.” This means putting one’s desires of living an alternative lifestyle ahead of living in accordance with the Bible, the purpose of which is to pair as a man and a woman, for the purpose of populating the earth, and producing a LIFE. (In case you missed it, two women on their own cannot create a baby. Funny how biology works.)
What is even more interesting is that Dante defined PRIDE as “love of the self-perverted toward hatred" and even more specifically, "contempt for one’s neighbor.” To prove that point, one has to look no further than the recent hate crimes, sign-stealing, and home vandalism perpetrated by the “No on Proposition 8” crowd in California. Gay advocates have spray-painted cars, destroyed signs protected by free speech rights, shouted people down at street corners, and even spray painted the side of beautiful homes which displayed political signs they disagreed with.
PRIDE is the deadliest of all of the Seven sins combined, and according to religious scholars leads directly to the damnation of the soul in eternity. While it may not be politically popular to say so, I agree with this sentiment. We should love all people unconditionally, but our gay friends must understand that with true love comes the truth. The truth about what the future holds for the PRIDE-ful. I have received death threats as a previous Spokesperson for the issue, and will probably continue to do so after posting this item. But to fail to inform our friends of the consequences of their actions would be failing God’s desire for us to live a life of truth.
With that in mind, I ask you to cast a “YES” Vote for Proposition 8 in California today to support God’s definition of marriage, to restore order, to send a message that judicial activism won’t stand in California, and that the original vote of millions of voters must count.
